Isn't the Law of Attraction about thinking positive?
The Law of Attraction, or LoA for short, is the concept of "like attracts like". This is used in terms of emotions - if you feel good about being, doing, or having something, then you are a "match" to it and it will show up (manifest) in your reality.
So this means that if you just think really positively about what you want for a while, it will come to you, but if you have any negative thoughts about it, then it will never come, right? I have to be uber positive and happy all the time to get what I want?
Not exactly.
The common beginner's mistake (and one that I personally had for about a year and a half) is that you're only allowed to feel happy, otherwise you will never get what you want. While feeling excited about what is to come is certainly a part of it, negative emotions are in fact an essential part of manifesting, too.
So what are negative emotions, then?
Negative emotions are simply the feelings you experience that show you that you have limiting beliefs about why you can't have what you want. They show you how you feel powerless.
You feel sad because you don't think you can have what you want. You feel angry because you think it's unfair that you can't have what you want.
Negative emotions are simply internal honest feedback that you don't believe you get to have what you want.
Thinking positive about something you have minor resistance to can usually work just fine, but if you have a fear that is deep-seated, trying to push your negative emotions away by just "thinking positive" without acknowledging them first will keep you stuck in them. That is denial, and it can look a little something like this.
This is why the "big" goals for us (be it money, beauty, love, etc.) seem to take forever for us to manifest. It's because there is more deep-seated resistance that needs to be cleared in order to feel good enough about the subject to allow it to come.
So how do I get rid of my negative emotions if "thinking positive" isn't working?
There are many techniques to help you clear your limiting beliefs (and I will add more to this blog as time goes on), but the main technique that they all stem back to is to allow yourself to fully feel your negative emotions for at least 2 minutes.
And I mean fully feel it and express it - sob hysterically, rage and punch some pillows, do whatever you feel inspired to in order to let it out. Note: I recommend doing this emotional release work privately. Most people are uncomfortable with other's expressions of emotions and may either try to make you stop or you will feel uncomfortable and try to stop yourself. Do this alone, whenever possible.
Contrary to common belief, you're not attracting more "bad vibes" to yourself or further distancing yourself from you desires by doing this. You are simply acknowledging and letting out what is already in you. You're letting go of the belief by honoring it and giving it permission to show itself, instead of forcing back down in you. You're giving yourself a chance to heal.
How do I know if I have let go of my limiting belief?
Easy - go back to visualizing your goal, and notice how it feels. If it feels good and exciting - great! You've released some of those fears. If you still feel kind of crappy, or maybe slightly better but not 100% excited, that's okay - you've still let go of some of those fears, but there are simply still a couple more layers to go.
And the truth is, the "big" goals for us oftentimes have multiple layers of limiting beliefs that we need to let go of because we perceive them as "big" goals. So it's really okay if you don't manifest it immediately - it's all a part of process that every human has to go through in some form. Just decide for yourself that everything you do is helping you to reach your goals, and that you will get what you want, in the end, and you'll find that you relax a little bit about it all and it will come to you. 🧡
